Permanent identification is an important aspect of getting your dog back home when it is lost. ID tags with owner information or rabies tags are other forms of identification, but depending on the situation, they can be damaged or ripped off. Maybe the dog got loose out the backyard without it’s collar and no tags are present. It is also important to keep your information current with the microchip registry, as that is the information that will be pulled up when your dog’s microchip number is searched.

Microchips are very safe. They are implanted under the skin, between the pet’s shoulder blades. The number is registered to only your pet. Once the facility that finds your lost pet scans the number, they will call the microchip registration service. They will provide the finder with the phone numbers and contact names that you registered.

Microchip costs are very affordable, considering they ensure your pet has permanent identification throughout it’s lifetime. It is a one-time fee for the microchip implanting procedure.
