Providing support, guidance, and compassionate care during a difficult time.
Euthanasia of a beloved dog is a very emotional thing to go through. There are times when we are able to prepare ourselves for the process, then there are times when we are faced with the decision unexpectedly. Our team members are always here to help you understand the process and discuss any questions you may have regarding the procedure.
Humane euthanasia is a gift that we can offer our pets to end their suffering. Quality of life is a question of determining and deciding how we can better the future for our pets and assessing this is an ongoing process. Solutions such as pain medication, dietary changes or procedures may offer a temporary solution for your pet’s discomfort. As pet owners, we know our pets better than anyone else. We are their advocates and when it comes time to make this difficult decision, we can help you through the process.
We do not offer house-call services.
Pets are often sedated prior to the euthanasia solution injection, to ease the process and ensure comfort for the pet, as well as you as an owner. The euthanasia solution used is a barbiturate called sodium pentobarbital, which causes unconsciousness and a cessation in respiratory as well as cardiac function. This injection is given intravenously and is generally very peaceful.
There are many options to consider when making the decision to end your pet’s suffering, such as a private cremation (ashes are returned to you in a cardboard or wood box or an urn) and ceramic paw prints. It may be best for you to get in touch with our team to discuss your wishes in order to determine the cost.
Our clinic does not, however, if you call us we will be able to refer you to some bereavement groups and counsellor in our area.
