Cleaning your dog’s ears and trimming their nails should be included in your dog’s regular grooming routine. Overgrown nails can make it difficult for your dog to walk properly. Long nails can also get caught on carpet or other fabric and result in your dog injuring their nail. Regular ear cleaning can help keep your dog’s ears free from wax and debris build-up that could possibly lead to an ear infection.

How often should I cut my dog’s nails?

Dog’s nails can grow at different rates just like ours. Depending on the breed of the dog and the dog’s activity level, nail trims are recommended approximately once a month. If your dog walks quite frequently especially on concrete, some of the nails may file down in the process. Dogs can have clear nails, black nails or a combination of both. The “quick” or blood supply to the nail can be a challenge to see in darker nails. Asking a technician for a nail trimming demonstration is always an option if you are unsure how to do it.
